The ocean is more than a place—it is a powerful connection that brings our communities together through culture, recreation, and daily life. But the ocean’s beauty and power also require knowledge, preparation, and respect.
The Big Island Lifeguard Association (BILA) works to keep our communities safer by providing ocean safety education, lifesaving training, and emergency preparedness programs for first responders and the broader community.
At the center of our mission is the Junior Lifeguard Program, where keiki learn essential ocean safety skills, environmental awareness, and how to recognize Hawaiʻi Island’s powerful and ever-changing coastal conditions. Through hands-on training and mentorship from experienced lifeguards, these young participants build confidence, responsibility, and a lifelong respect for the ocean.
By supporting BILA, you are helping:
• Train keiki to safely navigate and respect the ocean.
• Expand lifesaving BLS and First Aid training across our island.
• Strengthen emergency preparedness in our coastal communities.
• Provide equipment, instruction, and scholarships so more youth can participate.
Every donation helps build a community that is more prepared, more knowledgeable, and safer in and around the ocean.
Join us in protecting lives and empowering the next generation of ocean stewards. Donate today and help keep Hawaiʻi Island safe.
